What is the DELE B1 exam?

The DELE B1 (Diploma of Spanish as a Foreign Language, level B1) is the official Spanish proficiency certificate at intermediate level. It is issued by the Instituto Cervantes on behalf of Spain's Ministry of Education and does not expire.

The exam has four tests. Test 1: Reading comprehension (70 min). Test 2: Listening comprehension (40 min). Test 3: Written expression and interaction (60 min). Test 4: Oral expression and interaction (15 min + 15 min preparation). They are grouped into two blocks: Group 1 (reading + listening) and Group 2 (writing + speaking). Each group is scored out of 50 points and you need at least 30 in each (60%) to pass.

The DELE B1 is widely sought for Spanish citizenship by residence, university admission in Spanish-speaking countries, and professional certification. It is also recognized as proof of B1 level under the Common European Framework of Reference.
